The North East Area Labor Council released a statement January 9, 2026:
The North East Area Labor Council condemns the deadly and reckless actions of ICE in Minnesota and mourns the killing of Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed community member whose life was taken by a federal agent.
This was not about public safety. This was an abuse of power that has no place in our communities. ICE’s escalating presence in Minnesota is spreading fear, violating constitutional rights, and putting working people immigrant and non-immigrant alike in danger. The labor movement stands for dignity, solidarity, and the right to live and work without violence from our own government. What we are witnessing from ICE is incompatible with those values and with democracy itself.
We stand in solidarity with Renee Nicole Good’s family, with immigrant workers, and with all Minnesotans demanding accountability and justice. ICE is making our communities less safe. It is time for ICE to leave Minnesota.
— Derek Pederson, President North East Area Labor Council
