Workers Memorial Day remembers the fallen

The Duluth Central Labor Body held its annual Workers Memorial Day event on Monday, planting a tree and serving a pancake breakfast in the Labor Temple. Dozens of people attended.

The ceremony specifically remembered Jim Gibeau, an IBEW lineman who died on the jobsite earlier this year. The tree was planted in his memory and in memory of all fallen workers.

United Steelworkers Local 9460 will be holding a candlelight vigil on April 28 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in honor of fallen healthcare workers. Gather at Gloria Dei Church to get signs and supplies. There will also be a message board to sign if you wish. Participants will hold signs along both sides of Third Street between 4th Ave. E and 6th Ave. E. Please wear a mask and stay at least six feet from other participants.
