CLB moves on endorsements

The Duluth Central Labor Body took two actions on endorsements during its September meeting. After some discussion, the body decided that it will screen candidates for the Senate District 7 race at its November 14 meeting.
All candidates are welcome to screen; contact Katie Humphrey of the NEALC before the meeting if you have questions.
The body also voted to endorse Janet Kennedy in the District Five City Council race.
At its May meeting, delegates had considered Kennedy and Ashley Grimm for endorsement. Grimm took a worker safety perspective on the environmental evidentiary hearing vote, adding that there are “still questions” about
copper-nickel ming.
Kennedy said the issue needs to be heard at the state level. “We need to talk about housing and economic development, but the evidentiary hearing question should move where it needs to move.” Kennedy also said in May that teachers have the expertise when it comes to questions about equity in schools.
At the time, the delegates decided to take no action. Early absentee balloting opens on September 20.
